Significant occurrences:

1. NEA Region - 21 Mar. - 2 Kelowna SAR members responded to assist
                RCMP following report of a boat in distress on
                Okanagan Lake. SAR team members searched area;
                however, no boat was seen or located.

2. SWE Region - 20 Mar. - 5 Mission SAR members responded to search
                for 3 fishermen overdue in Salisbury. Family and
                friends were also in the area but were unable to
                locate them or their vehicle. They were located walking
                out of the area. Their vehicle had become stuck and
                they had spent the night by their vehicle.

3. SWE Region - 20 Mar. - 7 Squamish SAR members responded to assist
                in the rescue of 3 boaters who became stranded on the
                west side of the Squamish River after their boat had
                capsized. They were rescued from area with the
                assistance of a fisheries vessel; checked by BCAS
                Staff and all found to be okay.

4. NEA Region - 21 Mar. - 1 McBride SAR member responded to assist
                RCMP in rescuing a snowmobiler reported buried by an
                avalanche in the Renshaw area 20 miles from McBride.
                BCAS also responded by helicopter. Snowmobiler was
                subsequently found deceased at 1115 hrs, 21 Mar 01.
                Victim was flown out of area to McBride Hospital.

5. VIR Region - 21 Mar. - 1 PEP Air member responded to request from
                RCC to locate an ELT sounding in the Victoria area.
                Search determined that ELT was sounding from the
                aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, moored off
                Victoria. RCC contacted ship's personnel and ELT was
                shut down.

6. SWE Region - 21 Mar. - 10 Whistler SAR members responded to assist
                in the search for three teenage females who failed to
                return from skiing on Blackcomb Mountain, near
                Whistler. They were located late evening 21 Mar and
                successfully removed from area. All were okay.

7. NEA Region - 21 Mar. - 6 100 Mile House and 8 Williams Lake SAR
                members assisted RCMP in searching for a male
                believed to be suffering from Alzheimer's, who had
                wandered away from his home in 100 Mile House. He was
                located unharmed and returned to his home.

8. VIR Region - 21 Mar. - 2 PEP Air members responded to request from
                RCC to assist in locating an ELT sounding in the area
                of Victoria International Airport. ELT was located in
                a maintenance hanger on the airport and de-activated.

9. NEA Region - 21 Mar. - 1 McBride SAR member responded to assist
                RCMP in the search for a snow mobiler believed to be
                missing following discovery of his empty vehicle in the
                parking lot at Clemina Creek, Valemount area. Further
                inquiries revealed that missing snowmobiler had made
                his way out of area in another direction and was
                confirmed to have returned to his hotel.

10. CTL Region - 21 Mar. - 8 Kamloops SAR members responded to assist
                in search for an overdue male snowmobiler in the
                Lac Du Bois area near Kamloops. He was located early
                A.M. 22 Mar 01, suffering from hypothermia. He was
                moved to Kamloops SAR Comms trailer in search area and
                treated for hypothermia by first aid member. He was
                subsequently transported out of area to his home.
                Apparently he had become separated from other
                snowmobilers. Had become stuck in snow several times
                resulting in damage to snowmobile's motor.

11. SWE Region - 22 Mar. - 8 Squamish SAR members responded to assist
                RCMP in the rescue of an injured female in the Evans
                Lake area. She was located, having sustained a broken
                ankle, and was successfully removed from area on a
                stretcher by SAR team.

12. SWE Region - 22 Mar. - 11 Lillooet SAR members assisted by
                5 Pemberton SAR and 2 Avalanche Technicians responded
                to Low Creek Road near Lillooet.  Reports indicated
                there was one injured male and five others stranded
                following an avalanche in the area. The injured male
                was taken out by ambulance and the remainder were
                brought safely out on snowmobiles.

13. NEA Region - 23 Mar. - 14 Prince George SAR members accompanied
                by 2 avalanche technicians responded to the Torpy Road
                area near MacGregor NE of Prince George following
                report of 2 overdue snowmobilers. They failed to return
                as scheduled on the evening of 22 Mar. Due to difficult
                terrain a helicopter was used to transport searchers
                into the area on 23 Mar.  Victims were located and
                transported out.

14. CTL Region - 23 Mar. - 1 Kelowna SAR member responded to assist
                in search for a missing youth in the Rutland area.
                Search was stood down after youth was located.

15. SEA Region - 23 Mar. - 2 PEP Air members responded to assist RCC
                following report of an ELT sounding west of Cranbrook.
                No source was located.

16. SWE Region - 24 Mar. - 12 Chilliwack SAR were called to assist EHS
                with the rescue of an injured person on an island on
                the Fraser River. The SAR team rescued the victim by
                boat and transported them to helicopter.

17. CTL Region - 25 Mar. - 30 SAR members from Hope, Penticton,
                Merritt, Keremeos, and Kamloops responded to the
                Blackwell Mountain area of Manning Park following
                report of an overdue cross-country skier. He became
                separated from his skiing partner during the evening
                of 24 Mar.  He was located by the SAR team on 25 Mar
                alive, although hypothermic and turned over to
                BC Ambulance staff.

18. SWE Region - 25 Mar. - 10 Kent/Harrison SAR members responded
                following report of a boater in distress on the
                Harrison River. Search was stood down after SAR team
                arrived on scene and determined he had been rescued
                and towed ashore by another boater.

19. SEA Region - 25 Mar. - 8 Golden SAR members responded following
                report of 2 victims of an avalanche in the Gorman
                Creek area NW of Golden. RCMP helicopter responded
                with a Level 2 Avalanche Tech and SAR Manager onboard.
                SAR team members were transported into the area by
                chartered helicopter. Both victims were located alive
                and transported to hospital.

20. SWE Region - 25 Mar. - 8 Mission SAR members responded to assist
                EHS in a rescue of an injured female (broken leg) who
                was on the north side of Rawley Lake.

21. SEA Region - 25 Mar. - 1 Grand Forks SAR member responded to assist
                in locating a 75 yr old male with dementia who had
                wandered away from the hospital.  Search was stood
                down as male was located.

22. VIR Region - 25 Mar. - 12 Gold River SAR members responded to
                assist in the rescue of a fisherman whose boat had
                overturned in the Gold River leaving him on the wrong
                side of the river.  Victim was rescued and transported
                to the other side.

MISCELLANEOUS

On 21 Mar 01, four North Shore SAR members responded to request from 
RCMP to assist in the rescue of a dog, which had become trapped on a
ledge at Deep Cove Lookout, North Vancouver.  Dog was successfully
retrieved from the ledge.

On 24 Mar 01, 100 citizens were evacuated from their residences in
West Vancouver to the West Vancouver Recreation Centre because a male
with a gun had barricaded himself in the apartment.  Many of the
residences were seniors. Citizens were returned to their residences
in the am of 25 Mar 01.
